New Launch: Machine Vision FA Lenses with Ultra-Short Focal Lengths (2.8mm & 3.5mm)

Time : 2025-12-07

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of our latest machine vision FA lenses, featuring two ultra-short focal length options: 2.8mm and 3.5mm. Designed to meet the growing demand for wide-angle imaging in industrial automation and machine vision applications, these new lenses redefine the possibilities of close-range, large-field imaging while balancing performance and practicality.

A standout feature of these new FA lenses is their ultra-short focal length, which is significantly shorter than that of conventional machine vision lenses. This shorter focal length is a game-changer for scenarios requiring a wide field of view (FOV) in limited installation space. However, it is important to note that, as is typical with ultra-short focal length lenses, this wider FOV is accompanied by a relatively larger distortion compared to standard focal length lenses. We have optimized the optical design to minimize distortion as much as possible while prioritizing the wide FOV performance, ensuring that the distortion remains within a manageable range for most industrial applications.

The 2.8mm and 3.5mm ultra-short focal length FA lenses are ideally suited for a wide range of machine vision projects that demand comprehensive scene coverage and close-range imaging. One of the primary application areas is factory automation inspection, especially for inspecting large-sized workpieces or entire production lines. For example, in the inspection of printed circuit boards (PCBs) with large dimensions, electronic components on the entire board can be captured in a single image without the need for multiple lens movements, greatly improving inspection efficiency. Similarly, in the packaging industry, these lenses can be used to inspect the integrity of entire product packages, including labels, seals, and overall appearance, in one shot.

Another key application is robot vision guidance. In collaborative robot and industrial robot systems, the robot needs a broad view of its surrounding environment to avoid obstacles and accurately locate workpieces. The ultra-short focal length of our new FA lenses enables the robot’s vision system to capture a wide FOV, providing the robot with comprehensive environmental information to ensure safe and precise operation. This is particularly valuable in scenarios where the robot operates in a confined space, such as small-part assembly workstations.

Additionally, these lenses are well-suited for surveillance and monitoring in industrial environments, such as monitoring the entire area of a workshop or warehouse to ensure production safety and prevent accidents. They can also be used in logistics and sorting systems to capture the entire conveyor belt area, facilitating the rapid identification and sorting of packages.

When it comes to the field of view (FOV), the ultra-short focal length of 2.8mm and 3.5mm brings significant advantages. The FOV of a machine vision lens is inversely proportional to its focal length (under the same sensor size). This means that with the same image sensor, our 2.8mm lens can capture a much wider FOV than a 3.5mm lens, and both outperform conventional lenses (such as 6mm, 8mm lenses) in terms of FOV width. For example, when matched with a 1/2.3-inch sensor, the 2.8mm lens can achieve a horizontal FOV of approximately 85 degrees, while the 3.5mm lens can reach around 70 degrees. This wide FOV allows users to cover a larger imaging area without increasing the installation distance, which is crucial for applications where space is limited.

In conclusion, our new 2.8mm and 3.5mm ultra-short focal length machine vision FA lenses fill the gap in the ultra-wide FOV segment of industrial imaging. While they have slightly larger distortion, their excellent wide FOV performance, compact design, and wide range of applicable projects make them an ideal choice for industrial automation, robot vision, logistics sorting, and other fields. We are committed to providing high-quality, application-oriented machine vision solutions, and these new lenses are another testament to that commitment.
